Community Bookbinding Workshop!
On July 22, 2023, we hosted a free Community Bookbinding Workshop at the Evanston Public Library with North Branch Project’s Regin Igloria.
Twenty-five community members ages 6-76 spent two hours folding, cutting, and sewing books in the Falcon Room at EPL’s Main Branch on Church and Orrington in downtown Evanston.
The room was buzzing with activity. Not only did folks make multiple books, they also had the opportunity to view various binding structures that Regin brought along, whetting their appetites for more bookmaking in the future. The library provided a cart of books about bookbinding and how to make artist’s books, so participants to easily check out resources to continue making at home.
In addition, Regin’s installation project Everything On Wheels (pedestals that hold books where folks can answer prompt questions) will be at EPL’s Main Branch, in celebration of their 150th anniversary. Patrons can view (and contribute to!) the pedestals on all three floors of the library, through December 2023.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with EPL and North Branch Projects to bring these programs to our community! To support programs like these, please consider a donation to Hive Center for the Book Arts.
